Birth of Cricket

I had the amazing opportunity to photograph the birth of a baby in July. This little baby girl’s name is Cricket. Sara, the mother of this darling little baby, is also my album designer and good friend. She handled everything so well and looked beautiful the entire time. (If only I could look that good during labor and childbirth!) I think my favorite part of this entire experience, though, was watching Mike become a birth father for the first time. During the labor process he was so excited and would often times watch Sara with a smile on his face as she was enduring contractions. It wasn’t the kind of “I am so glad I am not in your shoes” smile, but it was a smile of endearment and shear joy for the moment. Then as the night progressed and it came time push this new little baby out into the world, Mike had this worried and stressed look on his face. You could tell he wasn’t really sure what to expect and that it was almost hard to believe this moment was already here! Then from the moment you could see her little head emerge he couldn’t take his eyes off of her. I think that is what I loved the most…the fact he literally couldn’t take his eyes off of her.

I have given birth to 3 of my own children and cherish those moments when they first come into the world. It is an experience like no other. It was a completely different experience, though, to witness and document the birth of a baby from an outside perspective. I loved every moment of it!!! So, thank you Mike and Sara for letting me be a part of such an amazing experience. It was an honor to document little Cricket’s birth.

So take a few minutes to sit back and relax and watch the slideshow of the birth. It is definitely worth it!
