A little of this and a little of that…

Here is a bit of what I’ve been up to lately for the last couple of weekends (seniors, engagement, and family pictures).  More to come soon.  Happy Monday.  (I love Monday’s BTW….LOVE them!!!  I think that’s a good sign that I love my job and I have a pretty good life.)

I just took these images Monday for this beautiful model in the making.  These were taken in Mission Hills at an amazing home!  I now wish I had taken some pictures of just the details of the home inside and out.  It was built in 1941…large stone house with French country finishing’s and decor.  The grounds were just as amazing…stone, large wood timber structures, beautiful gardens and landscaping.  I could photograph there all day.  Unfortunately these pictures don’t show off the area much since they are portraits, but you can get just a hint of some of the elements.  I do think they show off how naturally beautiful she is though.  Very little editing was done to these.

Spring is here…and so am I!

I realize it has been 2 months since my last blog post!  Yikes!  Yes, I am still here & still photographing, but after a much needed break from work.  For those of you who don’t know, we just recently moved to Louisburg.  I wanted to take some time to focus on the move, which is a whole lot of work when it has been over 10 years since our last move.  Wow, were we ever tired and sore and worn out!!  And then after we moved into the new house we took on some upgrade projects right off that bat.  It’s one of those situations where it is better to just get it all done at the same time because some projects can’t be done without the other.  I’m sure many of you have been there done that, right?  In fact, here is one that my dear husband did for me….replaced all 85 white wood spindles for black iron ones.  It was a lot of work, but I thank you from the bottom of my heart sweetie!  I love the change.  We couldn’t get the new carpet in until the spindles were in, and we couldn’t get the new spindles in until the railing was darkened….oh and the railing and fire place mantle were darkened by Leslie Sobek.  She does awesome work!  Email me for her number if interested.  She is doing my kitchen cabinets in May.  I hate oak, but don’t mind it so much when it is a darker color.  Here is the before and after of our stair case.

before and after 2

I can’t even begin to tell you how happy this move has made me, aside from the tremendous amount of work it has been.  Happy to be closer to the kids’ schools. Happy to have a greener and prettier yard & a bigger and prettier house.  Happy to redecorate.  Happy to be closer to most of our friends. The list could go on and on.  I never really liked Cleveland.  I know, maybe I shouldn’t admit that so openly in public, but it’s the truth.  The only redeeming quality about that little town was our wonderful neighbors whom we love and miss dearly.  They made our stay there worthwhile.

This Spring we celebrate a new start in a new home.  new blossoms and flowers in my yard I love to see every time I pull up.  a new basket ball hoop my kids love to play with almost daily.  a new fence (which Burge Fence did a great job on).  new opportunities to be more integrated with the community we’ve known since we moved to Kansas City.  and new opportunities for my business.

Stay tuned, because tomorrow I’m going to post some pictures from a shoot I did on Monday of a gorgeous girl.

The Dansel Family – Louisburg, KS Photographer

I’ve been wanting to post some pictures from the Dansel family’s session for quite some time now.  Not only did I love the colors from this session but loved the personality captured from these kids in the short amount of time we did the session.  Not only are they beautiful, but they are such kind and generous people.  I am grateful to know them.  Dr. Dansel has saved my neck and back on more than one occasion.  For any of you needing acupuncture or chiropractic care I HIGHLY recommend Dr. Dansel!!  You won’t be disappointed.

San Antonio, Texas

I had the opportunity to attend the Imaging USA convention in San Antonio the last few days.  It was quite fun and educational.  I just so happen to have a friend/client who lives in San Antonio, Missy, who allowed me to stay with her during my visit.  I did a session for Missy while I was out there.  I must say…I’ve grown quite fond of her little kids.  They are full of personality.  And Missy can you leave a comment below on where this truck is located?  Doesn’t Willie Nelson sing at this place?!

I was thoroughly enjoying the weather during my stay too.  It was 70 degrees the day we shot most of these photos.  I flew home yesterday and came home to lots of snow!  Makes me anxious for Spring!

Tierna – Senior Portraits, Louisburg

Well, I had a fabulous Holiday vacation!  It was nice to truly take a break and spend quality time with my family and away from the computer.  Now that I’m back I wanted to take some time to get caught up on some blogging.  Here are a few I loved from Tierna’s session.  I had fun Tierna!  I wish you all the best at BYU.

Mother & Daughter

The little girl in this session is as darling and sweet as they come.  She is a dream to photograph.  I had the opportunity to photograph them exactly one year ago, and their photo session last year went so well.  I was excited to work with them again, but didn’t know if the session could go any better than last year.  Well, it went great and I have to attribute it to this cute little girl who loves to be in front of the camera.  She knows how to “work it”…and she is just so good natured.  Not only does she let her darling personality come out but she takes direction really well, which is quite impressive for a 2 year old.  She made my job seem easy.

My Family

Finally found some time to put together my own Christmas card.  I thought I’d share a couple of the photos I used on it.  Family photo was taken by my friend and fellow photographer Cynthia Cockriel.  Thank you Cynthia…I love my photos.

And I have so much more I want to blog about and share from all my fall sessions!!  I’ve barely had a moment to catch my breath this busy season, let alone blog.  I’m almost caught up, though, so visit back soon for an update of the Fall/Holiday sessions.

Family Photos Kansas Style

My friend Jill and her family moved to Kansas City from Washington just a few months ago.  When I first met her and discovered her love for the rain and how much she missed it, I instantly thought how fun it would be to do a family shoot in rain puddles with brightly colored rain boots/coats and umbrellas.  With Christmas approaching, though, I thought she aught to do something a little more Kansas-like to send back home to friends and family.  We’ll save the rain puddle pictures for the Spring Jill.  And I’m sorry you don’t have as much rain as you wish you did (you’ll have to settle for tall grass & hay bales, hot & humid Summers and icy Winters), but I’m so glad you moved to Kansas!  We just love your family. :)
